Supporting freedom
I upgraded to Hardy Heron last night, and it’s a beauty. I cannot thank the FOSS community enough for this selfless work of art.
The least I can do is give back. To be fair, I’m just donating the equivalent of an upgrade fee from Windows XP to Ubuntu—instead of Vista. But here’s my dilemma—who do you donate to? Today, I have so far donated to Ubuntu, FSF, and to the Gnome Foundation.
How do you donate for your free and open source software?

I have donated to the ones you have, plus:
- WordPress
- FreeBSD
- OpenBSD
- Barack Obama
Without getting too political, the last one is about freedom as well
Apr 27, 08 at 15:39I think it’s appropriate to mention here that the EFF needs a donation every now and then. I haven’t donated to Wordpress or Ubuntu, but FSF has seen a bit from me, as has EFF.
Mostly I just look up the PayPal links on SourceForge and donate that way. I’ve donated to tons of very small software projects for programs that I thought were amazing. Just $5-$10 makes a huge difference to these guys, based on some of the responses I’ve gotten.

good suggestion for giving back to the open source community. I upgraded to Heron a few days back.
Cheers,
